One of the best parts of Easter for me — other than Cadbury eggs themselves — has always been the adorable Cadbury bunny “tryout” commercials that grace our TVs every year. Once you see a pig, lion, or llama in bunny ears, you know Easter is right around the corner.
This year, however, Cadbury is revamping the classic commercial a bit and holding auditions for new a star — and that star could be your pet! From dogs and cats to pigs and everything in between, Cadbury will be holding tryouts from Feb. 20 through March 6 for its next “bunny.”
If your pet wants a chance at being a star, all you have to do is submit a photo of him or her wearing bunny ears on Cadbury’s website and explain why they deserve to be on TV in 50 words or less. There’s a limit of one submission per person per day.
Twenty semi-finalists will then be selected by a panel of judges to submit videos of their pet. They will have to stand, sit, or lay in one place, facing the camera while wearing bunny ears for 60 seconds. The ears cannot be computer generated, so your pet will have to keep a physical headband on for at least one minute.
One semi-finalist pet will then be chosen and featured in the 2019 Easter commercial. The winning pet, of course, must be able to perform for the camera while wearing the ears when it comes time to film. You and your pet must also be available to film the commercial between March 12 and March 25, 2019. (If your pet is unable to perform, or you’re unable to film during those dates, the semi-finalist with the next highest score will be selected.) The winning pet/pet parent will also receive $5,000, and Cadbury will be donating $10,000 to the ASPCA.
The finalists will be judged by Instagram star Doug the Pug, along with his owner. If you want to give your pet some inspiration before their photo shoot, you can see the previous submissions on Cadbury’s website.
Lastly, just because I’m feeling nostalgic now, here’s the original commercial to get you in the Easter mood:
