Country singer Luke Bryan and his wife, Caroline, just added one more to their brood! The couple adopted a senior dog to accompany the pets and children who already comprise their family. By the looks of the photos online, Poochie, an adorable 18-year-old dog whose black coat is starting to gray, is quite happy in his new home.
The Proverbs 12:10 Animal Shelter in Nashville, Tennessee, posted on Facebook on Feb. 11 about the Bryan family’s adoption of Poochie:
“After reading about Poochie on our social media, Luke Bryan and his beautiful wife, Caroline, applied and adopted Poochie this past Saturday! He is pictured here with his new mom, Caroline and his previous foster, Lacy Marie! He is loving life on the Bryan farm and soaking up all their love. Who knows, maybe Poochie will inspire a country song! Thanks Bryans,” the post read.
As you can see in the photos, Poochie has already grown accustomed to going hunting and lounging around in his giant, cozy bed.
The singer recently posted on Instagram about tuckering out another one of his dogs while hunting, so apparently a day spent getting exercise in the great outdoors is a going to become a way of life for ol’ Poochie — not that there will be any complaints!

According to the shelter, the Bryan family first fell in love with Poochie after seeing a post about him on social media. The country music news site One Country also said that Caroline got to spend some time bonding with Poochie at an adoption drive hosted by the shelter. Clearly, they really hit it off.
Unfortunately, senior dogs are often overlooked in shelters, as families are often searching for puppies. In fact, according to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, “The adoption rate for seniors is lower than that of all other ages combined. Senior dog adoption rate is just 25 percent, while younger dogs … are at a 60 percent adoption rate.” But there’s definitely an exception in Poochie’s case!
“We pulled 18-year-old Poochie from a shelter after his family surrendered him due to becoming allergic,” Lavonne Redferrin, Proverbs 12:10 Animal Rescue’s director and founder, told People magazine. “We often step in and pull seniors, sickly and injured animals who are likely to be overlooked.”
After being cared for by a foster family,Proverbs 12:10 feels certain Poochie has found his forever home with the Bryans. “We are so thrilled for Poochie and know he is in great hands,” Redferrin told People. “Caroline Bryan has graciously given us updates on our sweet boy. Their adopting this sweet old guy will allow us the chance to save yet another.”
Bryan tweeted about the adoption, saying he was “loving [his] new buddy”:
Loving my new buddy https://t.co/rAD9Nat7PY— Luke Bryan (@LukeBryanOnline) February 13, 2019
Aww! We couldn’t be happier for Poochie and the Bryan family!
