NORTH WEST HARRIS COUNTY (Covering Katy News) - On National Dog Day we learned that the Cy-Fair Fire Department has two Golden Retrievers who serve as disaster search dogs alongside their handler, Denise Corliss. The Cy-Fair FD provides services to parts of the Katy area.
Taser is an 8-year-old Golden Retriever and FEMA-certified disaster search dog. Taser is specially trained to located missing persons following a man-made or natural disaster. Taser’s has deployed to a number of disasters, including Hurricane Harvey which significantly impacted our local community 2 years ago this week.
Rennes is an almost 1-year-old Golden Retriever and is still learning and training to become a certified disaster search dog. Tomorrow Rennes she will celebrate her first Birthday! Denise Corliss is a firefighter and canine handler with the Cy-Fair FD. She is a also member of FEMA’s USAR team and has responded to over 20 disasters with her search dogs; including Hurricane Harvey, Katrina, Rita and to the World Trade Center following the attacks on 9/11.
